The culinary world is grieving the sudden death of Food Network star Anne Burrell, who passed away at age 55 on Tuesday morning, June 17, 2025. The celebrity chef was found unconscious and unresponsive at her Brooklyn home and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a New York Police Department spokesperson speaking to Page Six. Her official cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
The Food Network shared a tribute on social media, stating, “We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved chef, Anne Burrell, passed away this morning. Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent – teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
Her family issued a statement to People magazine, saying, “Her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.”
Recognized for her spiky blonde hair and vibrant personality, Burrell gained fame as a sous-chef on Iron Chef America and hosted the Emmy-nominated Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. She became a fan favorite co-hosting Worst Cooks in America, mentoring contestants with humor and tough love. Her most recent appearance was on the Food Network’s House of Knives, which premiered in March 2025. Burrell also authored bestselling cookbooks, Cook Like a Rock Star and Own Your Kitchen.
She is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, whom she married in 2021, his son Javier, her mother Marlene, sister Jane, brother Ben, and her children Isabella, Amelia, and Nicolas.
