Nigeria’s Osun State Police Command has invited Francis Fadahunsi, the senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, for questioning following a controversial remark in which he appeared to urge supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.
The invitation came amid widespread public criticism and social media backlash over comments allegedly made by the senator during an APC campaign event in Ilesa.
According to a police letter dated August 11, 2026, and obtained by TheCable, Fadahunsi has been asked to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12.
The letter, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police Elections in Osun State, said the senator was being invited to explain the circumstances surrounding the statements.
“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the document stated.
The controversy stems from a video shared on X on Tuesday in which Fadahunsi, speaking in Yoruba, appeared to call on APC supporters to attack members of the Accord Party.
“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” the senator was heard saying in the clip.
However, following the outrage generated by the video, Fadahunsi moved to clarify his remarks, insisting they had been taken out of context.
In a statement titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” his team said the senator’s comments were intended as a political metaphor urging supporters to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot box.
The statement described the remark as “a call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election”.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking another term on the platform of the Accord Party, has repeatedly accused the APC of using thugs to intimidate, attack and kill his supporters ahead of the election.
