The fight between Elon Musk and President Donald Trump has publicly exploded with Musk accusing Trump of showing him “such ingratitude” after contributing significantly to his re-election bid in 2024. Musk who donated over $250 million towards Trump’s presidential campaign last year believes the American President is being so ungrateful to him.

In response to President Trump criticizing him for the first time over his attacks on the ‘one big, beautiful bill’, Musk tweeted on X that “Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would be 51 – 49 in the Senate,” adding that “Such ingratitude.”

On Thursday, June 5, 2025 during a press conference in the Oval Office of The White House, Trump subtly suggested that Musk, the CEO of Tesla was opposing his administration’s signature bill because he is “upset” the electric vehicle incentive was removed.

President Trump told journalists that he wasn’t sure he will remain friends with Musk. Thursday marked the first time Trump had responded to Musk’s public attacks against his bill.

In response, Musk admitted in a tweet of being upset about the removal of the electric vehicle incentive, writing it was “very unfair!!” that oil and gas subsidies were left in the bill.

In another tweet, Musk says “This bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”

But Trump suggested that Musk who claimed to have donated over $250 million towards his 2024 presidential campaign, was suffering what he referred to as “Trump derangement syndrome.”

Trump described the “Trump derangement syndrome” as people turning on the President after they leave his administration”.

Earlier this week, Musk intensified his criticisms against the bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”

Musk tweeted “I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” saying the bill is a “massive outrageous, pork-filled” spending bill.

The tech billionaire wrote: “shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.”

Tesla Stock

The feud between Musk and Trump saw Tesla’s stock falling by 5.8% to around $312.60 as of around 12:35 p.m. EDT on Thursday. Tesla’s losses accelerated after Trump’s comment.
