Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim, says he will not quit his job but will leave if club’s governing board and fans say he should leave.
He made this known in his post-match interview on Wednesday night, May 21, 2025, after Man United lost 1 – 0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final.
Man United are having one of the worst seasons in their club history. They currently sit 16th on the Premier League table with 39 points and one match to play before the end of the 2024/2025 season. A victory for them in the Europa League final would have ensured they play Champions League football next season.
But the defeat to Tottenham at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, Spain, means that Man United will not play any form of European football in the 2025/2026 season. Luckily for them, the 39 points are enough to keep them in the Premier League for another year, avoiding relegation which would have been terribly embarrassing for a traditionally big club like Man United.
Addressing the press after the Europa League final, the Portugese coach, Amorim says “If the board and fans feel I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any compensation…but I will not quit. I am really confident on my job, also today.”
He added that “As you see I will not change nothing in the way I do things. You know I am always open and very clear.”
