President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Finance Minister to allocate funds for the second phase of the Blekusu Sea Defence project. This move aims to prevent future flooding in the area, which has recently displaced hundreds of residents in Salakope, Amutinu, and Agavedzi due to tidal waves .
During his visit to Agavedzi in the Volta Region, Mahama emphasized the urgent need for action, stating that the Finance Minister will be directed to include funding for the project. He also highlighted the importance of a dual approach, which includes:
– Starting phase two of the defence wall: To mitigate the impact of future flooding
– Resettling affected residents: Finding a more suitable site for those whose houses have been affected ¹
This directive comes after Mahama assessed the destruction caused by the tidal waves in the area. The Blekusu Sea Defence project is crucial in protecting the communities along the coast from the devastating effects of flooding.
