Kenyan Music Scene Explodes with Diverse Albums and EPs in 2024

Nairobi, Kenya – 2024 proved to be an explosive year for Kenyan music, with a diverse array of chart-topping albums and EPs hitting the airwaves. From Bensoul’s genre-bending experimentation to Nyashinski’s hard-hitting rap and Ssaru’s urban anthems, there was something for everyone.

Bensoul, formerly of Sol Generation Records, released his highly anticipated second solo album, “The Party and the Party After.” The album showcased his versatility, experimenting with different sounds and delivering hits like “Okra Water” and the massively popular “Extra Pressure,” which garnered over six million views on YouTube.

Kodong Clan, a music collective featuring Bensoul alongside other prominent artists, dropped their self-titled album and quickly climbed the charts. Their hit single, “Disko,” fueled the album’s popularity and cemented Kodong Clan’s unique blend of Luo rhythms and diverse cultural influences.

Nyashinski took a different approach with his EP “To Whom It May Concern.” Widely seen as a response to his critics and legal battles, the EP showcased his lyrical prowess with a mix of hard-hitting rap and emotive melodies. Tracks like “Busy” and “Jitu” resonated with fans.

Watendawili, another group that departed Sol Generation Records, marked their musical evolution with their debut album, “Enroute.” The 12-track album captured their growth and authenticity, solidifying their place in the Kenyan music scene.

Finally, Ssaru, the self-proclaimed “Queen of Genge,” closed the year with her EP of the same name. Featuring collaborations with Kenyan giants like Khaligraph Jones and Trio Mio, Ssaru delivered hard-hitting lyrics and infectious beats, solidifying her reign over the urban music scene.

2024 proved to be a year of musical growth and diversity in Kenya, with established artists pushing boundaries and new voices emerging. The future of Kenyan music looks brighter than ever.
