Ghanaian film maker, Peter Sedufia has disclosed that it cost him less when he shot and produced his yet-to-be-released movie, ‘One Night Guests’, in Nigeria.
Citing as the reason he decided to move the production of his movie to Nigeria, Peter told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z that his decision was purely on business basis.
“Going to Nigeria is purely a business decision because finding investors in Ghana was quite a hectic one. People know your numbers, they know what you can do but the skepticism is still there. But you meet a Nigerian business person and they are like ‘oh we like it, we’re gonna give you money.’ And they say that if they give you the money you need to do it where the numbers are.
Of course it is a passion project but it is not a charity job. It is a business decision we took. So we decided to go to Nigeria. After all, it was just one location thing and so there is no harm in [doing it],” he told Kwame Dadzie.
Touching on the cost of production in Nigeria, Peter highlighted the gaping gap between costs of hiring equipment in Ghana and Nigeria.
“It was less expensive making the film there, actually. I got some of the equipment I used in Nigeria for about $60-$65 a day, for the camera, whereas if it was Ghana someone would be charging me about $500-$700 a day,” he noted.
‘One Night Guests’ is a suspenseful drama that explores the intricacies of human relationships and the unexpected twists of fate that can change lives in an instant.
The movie features actors from both Nigeria and Ghana, such as Chidi Mokeme, Ini Edo, Yvonne Okoro, Majid Michel, Warri Pikin, Roselyn Ngissah, James Gardiner, Lasisi Elenu, Akah Nnani, among others.
One Night Guests will be simultaneously premiered in Nigeria and Ghana on Christmas Day, 2024, with screenings in cinemas across both countries. This dual premiere is set to be a major event, celebrating the unity and cultural exchange between the two nations.
One Night Guests is directed by Peter Sedufia and produced by OldFilm Productions (Ghana), Sozo Films (Nigeria), and Gravel Road Studios (South Africa).
