Rema sets record straight on devil worship rumors

Nigerian singer Rema has addressed online rumors claiming he worships the devil, attributing the speculation to his visually striking music videos and performance aesthetics.

In an interview on the Kids Take Over podcast, Rema described the allegations that he worships the devil as “the craziest thing” he’s seen about himself. Also, he explained that the imagery and colors used in his work are simply artistic choices.

“The craziest thing I’ve seen online about me is that I worship the devil; they say I worship the devil,” Rema stated. “It’s not important to respond to those claims; I feel like it’s a waste of time.”

Additionally, Rema specifically highlighted the misunderstanding surrounding his “rabbid phase,” featuring the use of red. “If you see a beautiful lady in a red dress, you won’t call her the devil, so why are you calling me the devil?”he asked.

The singer also emphasized the influence of his Edo culture on his music visuals, expressing frustration at how some people label his culture as “devilish” due to lack of understanding.
