The South African Police Service (SAPS) has warned South Africans to desist from spreading lies or false information on social about the three missing South African Police officers namely 24-year-old Constable Cebekhulu Linda (male), 30-year-old Constable Keamogetswe Buys (female) and 20-year-old Constable Boipelo Senoge (female).

It would be recalled that three police constables
went missing on Wednesday while travelling to Limpopo for their deployment.

The SAPS has since issued a reward of R350 000 to anyone who has information that will lead to a breakthrough in their disappearance.

SAPS spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said spreading lies on social media is insensitive and misleading.

Mathe says “Social media is a very powerful tool that we utilize as the SAPS. To share information, to look for suspects and so on. It has in the past assisted us when we were looking for dangerous and cold criminals. So, let us use it responsibly. This is not the time to paddle fake information and lies. There are families that are heartbroken. There’re us who have to deal with searching for our own. It cannot be easy for us. These are our colleagues.”

Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says they do not want to speculate on the motive of the mysterious disappearance of the officers.

He has called on the co-operation of the public, saying they believe that someone out there knows something.
He has also met with family members of the three police officers.
