President John Dramani Mahama on Monday received Letters of Credence from seven newly appointed non-resident High Commissioners and Ambassadors, officially accrediting them as representatives of their respective countries to Ghana.

The ceremony, held at the Presidency, marked the formal recognition of the diplomats and granted them the authority to act on behalf of their governments in Ghana. The event also reaffirmed Ghana’s longstanding diplomatic relations with Malta, Russia, Poland, Indonesia, Panama, Armenia and Tanzania.

The envoys accredited to Ghana were:

▪︎Ronald Micallef, High Commissioner of Malta;

▪︎Andrei Ordash, Ambassador of the Russian Federation;

▪︎Michal Cygan, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland;

▪︎Bambang Suharto, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia;

▪︎Isbeth Lisbeth Quiel Murcia, Ambassador of the Republic of Panama;

▪︎Armen Sargsyan, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia; and

▪︎Selestine Gervas Kakele, High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania.

Addressing the diplomats, President Mahama reiterated Ghana’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in key sectors, including trade and investment, agriculture and agro-processing, education, energy, technology, infrastructure, tourism, skills development and industrialisation.

He highlighted the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative and Ghana’s strategic role within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), encouraging the envoys to explore opportunities for enhanced economic partnerships and investment.

The President noted that despite differences in geography, culture and levels of development, Ghana and the diplomats’ respective countries were united by common aspirations for peace, prosperity and international cooperation.

President Mahama also stressed the importance of multilateral collaboration in tackling global challenges such as climate change, terrorism, food insecurity, irregular migration and economic uncertainty. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to promoting international peace, security and sustainable development through collective action and effective global governance.

The diplomats expressed appreciation for the warm reception and pledged to work closely with the Government of Ghana to deepen bilateral ties and advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The presentation of credentials is a key diplomatic process that formally establishes an envoy’s authority to represent their country and engage with the host government on political, economic and cultural matters. The accreditation of the seven envoys is expected to further strengthen Ghana’s engagement with their respective nations and create new avenues for cooperation and mutual development.
