Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening media freedom following his participation in the 2025 Paris Peace Forum.
Speaking at the closing session of the forum, which focused on Information Integrity and Independent Media, President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to “strengthening media freedom.”

During Wednesday’s discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron and other global leaders on the future of information integrity and democracy, President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s leadership on the continent.

He stated, “Ghana is already a leader on the continent in advancing press freedom and supporting credible, independent journalism.”
The President announced that Ghana is joining the Partnership for Information and Democracy as a full member and will support the International Fund for Public Interest Media.

“This is yet another indication that Ghana remains steadfast in advancing the frontiers of freedom, upholding the rule of law, and serving as a model nation in promoting democracy and good governance,” he said.
Reflecting on the discussions, President Mahama emphasized the need for continued support for independent journalism and accountability.

He said, “We must continue to support journalists and institutions that stand for integrity and accountability, demand transparency and ethical responsibility from digital and AI platforms, and strengthen international cooperation to protect information as a shared global asset.”
