Nigeria has reportedly banned the import of several products from countries outside the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The banned products include poultry, cement, pharmaceuticals and several food items.
Local media reports say the policy, signed by Finance Minister Wale Edun, is part of revised fiscal measures affecting 17 categories of goods, the reports say.
Other affected items include meat products, eggs, sugar, refined vegetable oil, beverages and tomato products, according to Nigeria’s federal import prohibition list published on the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission’s website.
The restrictions apply specifically to goods originating outside the West African bloc, as Nigeria updates its import rules and tariffs under its 2026 fiscal framework.
