US President, Donald Trump, says the Strait of Hormuz is now fully open to global shipping but that a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports will remain in place until an agreement is finalized between the US and Iran.
According to Trump, “The Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ready for business and full passage, but the naval blockade will remain in full force… until our transaction with Iran is 100% complete.”
He says in his post on Truth Social on Friday that “This process should go very quickly in that most of the points are already negotiated.”
Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, announced that the passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz in March this year after the US and Israel launched war on the country, killing the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28.
But Araghchi says “In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of the ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organization of the Islamic Rep. of Iran.”
