Accra, Ghana – MTN Ghana has taken a significant stride towards fostering gender equality and empowering its female workforce with the official launch of the Y’ello Ladies Network. This all-female employee group aims to serve as a catalyst for career development, professional growth, and empowerment, welcoming all female employees across the company’s diverse departments.
The launch event, held amidst enthusiastic anticipation, underscored MTN Ghana’s commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for its female employees. Stephen Blewett, MTN Ghana’s Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the strategic importance of growing female talent, stating, “We must grow our women; it’s not only beneficial for individuals but also for the business. Studies have shown that companies with at least 30% female representation are better equipped to face the challenges of a rapidly changing business environment.”
The Y’ello Ladies Network is structured around four pivotal pillars: empowerment, inspiration, guidance, and coaching. Antoinette Kwofie, MTN Ghana’s Chief Finance Officer, emphasized the network’s role in promoting women’s leadership and career advancement, aiming to “create an inclusive environment that supports career development, empowers women to attain leadership roles, and encourages diversity and inclusivity within the workplace.”
Presidential Advisor Joyce Bawah Mogtari, the Special Guest of Honour, delivered a powerful message on the importance of networking. Drawing from her own career, she urged the women to build meaningful connections, stating, “Never underestimate the value of a strong network. True success comes when you build an entire ecosystem and create opportunities for others to thrive.”
The launch featured a lineup of esteemed speakers, including NanaAma Botchway and Rosie Ebe-Arthur, MTN Ghana Board Members, who encouraged the women to harness their confidence. Janet Sunkwa-Mills, Executive Women Network board member, stressed the necessity of intentional network investment.
Dzigbordi Dosoo, CEO of DCG Consulting Group, highlighted the significance of self-development in coaching. Taaka Awori, CEO of Busara Africa, urged women to seek internal inspiration. Sika Twum, CEO of Self Search Ghana, emphasized unity and guidance. And Audrey Abakah, SME Lead at Absa Bank, underscored the need for personal growth alongside organizational support.
The event, attended by MTN Executives, female employees, and leaders of various women’s associations, marked a pivotal moment in MTN Ghana’s journey towards fostering a more equitable and empowering workplace. The Y’ello Ladies Network is poised to become a vital platform for women to thrive, connect, and lead within the organization and beyond.
