The Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa (WESSA) has announced that the KZN South Coast has been awarded seven Blue Flags for its beaches for the 2024/2025 season.
A further five beaches retained Blue Flag Pilot status, which are beaches that are working towards Blue Flag status, but do not yet meet all the criteria.
At the announcement, CEO of South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise, Dr Vusumuzi Sibiya said that it was a testament to how seriously they viewed the quality of their beaches which were some of the region’s biggest tourism attractions and a significant contributor to the local tourism economy.
“Alongside the work being done by municipalities, we must applaud initiatives such as ”“Tidy Towns and ”Keep Scottburgh Beautiful,“ which have bolstered beach cleanliness and safety”. Dr Sibiya said as per IOL.
