King Paluta Petitions TGMA Over Makoma Snub: Demands Explanation

Ghanaian rapper and songwriter King Paluta has officially petitioned the board of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) over the exclusion of his hit track Makoma from this year’s nominations.

In a statement issued by his management on March 18, 2025, the artist seeks clarification on why the song—despite its undeniable success—was omitted from key categories, including:

  • Most Popular Song of the Year
  • Record of the Year
  • Hiplife Song of the Year
  • Songwriter of the Year (King Paluta)

The omission has sparked concern among fans and industry players, especially since Makoma became a street anthem, dominated streaming platforms, and received massive airplay since its release in August 2024. His management insists that the track meets all ethical and artistic standards set by the award scheme and demands a reasonable and tangible explanation from the TGMA board.

Despite the snub, King Paluta secured nominations for Most Popular Song of the Year with his track Aseda and is a strong contender for Artiste of the Year. However, many believe Makoma was one of the biggest songs in Ghana under the year of review, making its exclusion a topic of intense debate.

As fans eagerly await a response from the TGMA board, the controversy raises questions about transparency and fairness in Ghana’s biggest music awards scheme. Will the board reconsider its decision? Only time will tell.
