The Government of Ghana has sharply condemned the killing of a Ghanaian citizen in South Africa during the June 30, 2026 anti-immigrant protest.
In a statement issued to the media on July 1, 2026, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says identified the murdered Ghanaian as Bashiru Isak, aged 40.
The statement said Isak was killed in Khayelitsha, Cape Town on Monday, June 30, 2026 “during anti-immigrant demonstrations linked to ongoing xenophobic attacks.”
Isak was shot dead, according to Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Quashie.
