Black Satellites’ 15-Year Investment Matures: World Cup Heroes to Receive Windfall

ACCRA, GHANA – Fifteen years after their historic U-20 World Cup triumph, Ghana’s 2009 Black Satellites are set to receive the fruits of a long-term investment. The 21 players of the victorious squad have been invited to collect matured investment cheques, marking a significant moment in their post-career journey.

SAS Finance Group, which managed the funds, has informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) that the cheques are ready for distribution. The investment, made in 2009 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, matured on January 4, 2025. A total of GH₵210,000 was initially invested, allocating GH₵10,000 to each player.

Starting January 8, 2025, the players can collect their cheques from SAS Finance Group’s office on the 14th floor of the World Trade Centre, Independence Avenue, Accra. Players must present a valid Ghana Card for identification. Those unable to collect in person can authorize a representative with a notarized Power of Attorney.

Beyond the financial investment, each player also received annual life and health insurance coverage, further securing their well-being.

The 2009 U-20 World Cup victory remains a watershed moment in Ghanaian football history, marking the nation’s first and only triumph in the competition. The Black Satellites famously defeated Brazil in a nail-biting penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

Among the players set to receive their investments are celebrated names like Daniel Agyei, Samuel Inkoom, Andre Ayew, and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu. SAS Finance Group has released a full list of eligible players. This financial support serves as a lasting testament to their remarkable achievement on the world stage.
