LAGOS — Afrobeats sensation Ayra Starr and Grammy-winning icon Wizkid set the music world ablaze with their electrifying new single, “Gimme Dat,” released on April 25, 2025. The track, a pulsating blend of infectious rhythms and sultry vocals, marks their second collaboration following the fan-favorite “2 Sugar” from Wizkid’s 2022 album More Love, Less Ego.
Ayra Starr, the Mavin Records prodigy, teased the release with a cryptic social media snippet, sparking wild speculation about her mystery collaborator. When she confirmed Wizkid’s involvement, fans erupted in excitement, flooding platforms with anticipation. Dropped via major streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music, “Gimme Dat” has already garnered rave reactions, cementing its place as a summer anthem.
Since bursting onto the scene as a teenager, Ayra Starr has solidified her status as an Afrobeats powerhouse with a string of hits, and “Gimme Dat” further showcases her dynamic artistry. Wizkid, fresh off his historic 2022 Favorite Afrobeats Artist win at the American Music Awards (AMAs), brings his signature swagger, elevating the track’s global appeal. Both artists are also nominated for the same category at the 51st AMAs, set for May 26, 2025, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, where they’ll compete alongside Tems, Rema, Asake, and South Africa’s Tyla.
Adding to the Afrobeats buzz, Los Angeles–based artist Monsieur Belange dropped his own single, “Jack in the Box,” on April 25 via DistroKid. Inspired by a 2022 moment outside a California Jack in the Box, the track fuses ’90s hip-hop, soulful R&B, and rapid-fire rap, capturing the immigrant hustle. Following his acclaimed “For the Ransom,” Belange’s latest release, available on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube, joins the vibrant wave of global sounds alongside Starr and Wizkid.
