The late Fela Kuti pictured with two of his lovers
The Pioneer of Afrobeats, the late Nigerian legendary singer Fela Kuti, had over 100 girlfriends, his son Seun Kuti, has disclosed.
Speaking on the latest episode of the ‘Bahd & Boujee’ Podcast co-hosted by actress Moet Abebe and reality TV star, Tolanibaj, Seun Kuti said the 100 plus girlfriends were aside the 27 women his late father married.
According to him, “People only know of Fela’s 27 wives, they don’t know of his over 100 girlfriends that lived with us in the house.”
He explained that his father married 27 women on the same day in a bid to preserve their honour and dignity as the media was already tagging his female dancers and band members living with him as “prostitutes”.
In 1978, the Afrobeats pioneer married 27 women within one day.
