LOS ANGELES, CA — May 8, 2025 — Move over, Michael B. Jordan—kidding (kind of). A$AP Rocky is charting bold new territory in Hollywood, revealing ambitions that span adrenaline-fueled action roles, animated films for kids, and even a shot at becoming the next James Bond.
In a recent Variety interview, Rocky reflected on his experience filming Spike Lee’s upcoming feature, Highest 2 Lowest, where he took on intense stunt work for the role of Yung Felon, an up-and-coming rapper desperate to prove himself. “I’m down for whatever,” he said. “I think I need to be the new Black James Bond. Like, why not? If we hit the gym, I’ma be aight. Right now I’m in dad mode; you’re gonna have to give me a couple months.”
But it’s not all guns and gadgets on Rocky’s radar. The soon-to-be father of three has his sights set on stories his children can enjoy, too. “Everybody’s doing Despicable Me and SpongeBob… I want to do an original DreamWorks/Pixar-ass film, like Soul,” he explained. “I like the internet stuff too, like Gracie’s Corner. I hate Cocomelon. Cocomelon is bad for the kids, man, but Gracie’s is hittin’. I just hope my kids don’t grow up and think that stuff was lame. So whatever I do, it’s gonna be cool and timeless.”
Rocky also revealed a past misstep in his acting journey: a botched audition for the role of Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story. “I auditioned for Star Wars — for Lando — and my audition was trash. I was trash that day,” he laughed. “My man Childish Gambino was a way better Lando than I would’ve provided at that time.”
His next major role, however, is anything but trash. Highest 2 Lowest premieres at the Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2025, with a theatrical release set for August 22, followed by streaming on Apple TV+ starting September 5. In the film, Rocky stars alongside Denzel Washington, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, and Ice Spice, who makes her feature film debut.
Whether it’s breaking into action blockbusters or animated classics, A$AP Rocky seems ready for his close-up—and maybe even a license to kill.
