Botswana President Duma Gideon Boko has called for greater accuracy, independence and responsibility in the reporting of economic and business issues, stressing the important role of the media in supporting the country’s economic transformation.
Boko made the remarks on Monday, September 14, 2026, after joining journalists and media practitioners at the FNB Media Training on ethics and responsible reporting of Botswana’s economy, investment, trade and business.
According to the President, a strong economy requires credible and reliable information, placing an important responsibility on journalists to accurately report developments and critically examine facts before presenting them to the public. He said informed reporting can help citizens better understand the economic decisions and policies shaping the country.
Boko said Botswana’s pursuit of economic transformation requires a media environment that is informed, independent and responsible in telling the country’s economic story. He emphasized that responsible journalism is important not only for public understanding but also for strengthening accountability.
The President further noted that good journalism can contribute to public confidence and investor confidence, while promoting greater accountability in economic affairs. His comments underscore the need for media practitioners covering business and economic matters to uphold professional and ethical standards in their reporting.
