Three persons have been arrested by the Plateau State Police Command over the alleged mob killing of a 25-year-old model, Ibrahim Mbaya, popularly known as Ibee, in Jos.
Mbaya, a graduate of the University of Jos and a model, was reportedly accused of stealing an iPhone before he was violently attacked by individuals said to be familiar with him.
According to reports, the deceased had attended a social gathering on campus and later chose to spend the night at a friend’s residence along Ring Road because it was too late to travel back to his home in Rayfield.
The next morning, his host allegedly informed him that an iPhone was missing from the room and accused him of being responsible since they had been the only two people present.
Sources said Mbaya initially left the residence but later returned after receiving a call from the friend, who reportedly asked him to come back and address the allegation surrounding the missing phone.
Upon his return, he was allegedly confronted by his friend and several other young men who accused him of theft.
Witnesses claimed the group attacked him and subjected him to prolonged physical abuse in an effort to force him to admit to the accusation.
The assault, which was reportedly recorded on video, lasted for hours.
During the attack, Mbaya was allegedly beaten with various objects until he lost consciousness.
Confirming the incident on Monday, July 27, 2026, the spokesperson of the Plateau State Police Command, SP Alfred Alabo, said officers received a report at about 11:20 p.m. on July 26 from a source at the Jos University Teaching Hospital indicating that some youths had brought an unconscious man to the hospital under suspicious circumstances.
Alabo stated that police personnel immediately responded and identified the victim as Ibrahim Mbaya of Rayfield, Jos. However, medical personnel later confirmed that he was dead on arrival.
The police spokesperson added that investigations were launched immediately, leading to the arrest of three suspects identified as Rinji Daniel, Fwanji Emmanuel Newyear, and Nensemka Fwanji.
According to the police, one of the suspects, Emmanuel, was seen in a viral video allegedly striking the victim with a large wooden plank during the attack. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
