A teacher at the Nyinahini Catholic Senior High School in Ghana, has been arrested after he was seen in a viral video on social media allegedly fighting a female student on campus.
Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi, confirmed the arrest in a post on Facebook on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Fenyi says “The Nyinahini Catholic SHS teacher seen in the viral video fighting a female student arrested! Regional education directorate is investigating the matter. Full report to be submitted to HQ.”
After the fighting video went viral, there was public concern about the treatment of students on campuses across Ghana.
In the video, the teacher repeatedly punched the female student and, at one point, lifted her and threw her to the ground, leaving her helpless.
Witnesses can be heard in the video asking him to consider that the student was a girl and to refrain from assaulting her.
However, the teacher, who appeared visibly angry, responded by asking, “Is she aware she is a lady?”
The circumstances that led to the fight have not yet been disclosed by school authorities or the Ghana Education Service.
But GES says the regional education directorate has launched an investigation into the incident and is expected to submit a full report to its headquarters.
