An FM station in Britain, Radio Caroline, has apologized for “accidentally” announcing that King Charles had died.

Radio Caroline says it was sorry for “any distress caused.”

The station made the announcement of the King’s erroneous death on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

But Radio Caroline Station Manager, Peter Moore, in a post on Facebook, said “Due to a computer error at our main studio, the Death of a monarch procedure, which all UK stations hold in readiness whilst hoping not to require, was accidentally activated on Tuesday afternoon (19 May), mistakenly announcing that HM the King had passed away.”

He said “Radio Caroline then fell silent as would be required, which alerted us to restore programming and issue an on-air apology.”
