Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, and former Defence Minister, Theophilus Danjuma, spent a combined ₦3.5 billion on copies of former military leader Yakubu Gowon’s autobiography at its launch in Abuja.
The book, titled _My Life of Duty and Allegiance_, was unveiled on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Conference Centre.
Danjuma paid ₦3 billion for copies, while Dangote’s representative, Mansur Ahmed, announced the purchase of 25 copies for ₦500 million. Dangote also directed that 12 copies be sent to the libraries of each of the 20 universities that awarded Gowon honorary doctorate degrees.
President of BUA Group, Abdul-Samad Rabiu, bought copies worth ₦25 million.
The 20-chapter autobiography drew senior government officials, diplomats, and military officers at its launch. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented President Bola Tinubu at the event.
Catholic Bishop of Sokoto, Matthew Kukah, reviewed the book.
