The Government of Egypt has donated 9,500 doses of hepatitis C vaccines, valued at nearly $80,000, to the Government of Ghana.
Presenting the donation, the Egyptian Ambassador to Ghana, Wael Fathy Ahmed, described the gesture as a reflection of the growing cooperation between Ghana and Egypt. He emphasized the importance of African countries supporting one another, particularly in the face of global health challenges.
Drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ambassador noted that Africa was among the last regions to receive vaccines, underscoring the need for stronger collaboration across the continent. He stressed that it was time for African nations to work together to address shared health challenges and reduce dependence on external support.
Mr. Ahmed further highlighted that the partnership between Egypt and Ghana extends beyond donations, pointing to opportunities for collaboration in pharmaceutical development and vaccine manufacturing in Ghana.

Receiving the vaccines on behalf of the government, the Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, expressed appreciation for the gesture. She described the donation as timely, especially in an era where foreign aid is declining.
She noted that receiving such support from a fellow African country reinforces the importance of intra-African solidarity and cooperation. In addition to the hepatitis C vaccines, she indicated that Ghana looks forward to deepening collaboration with Egypt in other critical areas of the health sector.
Prof. Danquah further stated that partnerships of this nature will play a crucial role in shaping the future of healthcare delivery on the continent. According to her, strengthening such ties is key to advancing Africa’s health sovereignty and ensuring sustainable access to essential medicines and vaccines.
As part of the ceremony, the Deputy Minister formally handed over the vaccines to the Ghana Health Service for distribution and use across the country.
The donation marks another step in the growing bilateral relations between Ghana and Egypt, particularly in the health sector, as both countries seek to build resilient systems capable of responding effectively to current and future public health needs.
