At least nine illegal gold miners have been reported dead in Ghana after a mine collapse.
The incident happened at Tontokrom in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region.
Aside the nine dead, four other miners sustained injuries and have been rushed to a nearby health facility for treatment.
Reports say the illegal mine, located in Asutifi South, was identified as a hotspot for illegal mining activities, locally known as galamsey.
According to authorities, the collapse happened despite ongoing interventions by the National Inter-Ministerial Taskforce on Small-Scale Mining (NAIMOS), which was previously attacked in the area.
