An Accra Circuit Court has ordered the remand of 33-year-old Latifa Iddrisu into police custody for two weeks over her alleged involvement in the theft of a newborn baby from the Mamprobi Polyclinic.
The accused is expected to return to court on March 4, 2026, as investigations continue.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to police reports, the incident occurred on February 18, 2026, just a day after the baby’s mother delivered through a cesarean section at the facility on February 17.

Investigators say the suspect allegedly posed as a nurse to gain access to the ward. CCTV footage from the clinic reportedly captured her carrying the infant out of the facility with what appeared to be a sack. The video later circulated widely on social media, sparking public concern and outrage.
The incident caused panic among hospital staff and patients, particularly as it involved a mother who had just undergone surgery and was still recovering.
Arrest and Recovery of the Baby
Police later tracked and arrested Iddrisu, a cloth seller based in Accra, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on February 18. She was allegedly found in possession of the baby at the time of her arrest.
Following her apprehension, she was transferred to the Mamprobi Polyclinic under the Dansoman Divisional Police Command for further investigations and identification procedures.
Authorities confirmed that the infant’s mother was invited to identify the child. She reportedly recognized her baby through a distinctive birthmark on the left leg, leading to an emotional reunion with her child.
Relief for the Family
The safe recovery of the newborn brought immense relief to the family after what had been a distressing ordeal. Police say investigations are ongoing as the case proceeds through the courts.
The court’s decision to remand the suspect is intended to allow law enforcement to complete their inquiries before the next hearing date.
