Security agencies have arrested Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, popularly known as Baaluuse, in connection with the killing of a police officer at the Kariminga police barrier in Ghana’s Upper East Region.
The 33-year-old suspect was picked up around 12:30 a.m. on February 17, 2026, following a carefully coordinated, intelligence-led operation involving the National Police Intelligence Directorate in Accra and the Upper East Regional Police Intelligence Department of the Ghana Police Service.

Iddrisu was arrested at his hideout in Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga, after weeks of tracking by investigators. He had been on the police wanted list since an attack on officers manning the Kariminga checkpoint on December 29, 2025.
That attack claimed the life of General Constable Seth Oppong Damoah, who was shot during the incident. Two other officers—General Corporal Nyanku Charles and General Corporal Abu Moro—also sustained critical injuries during the assault.
Police intelligence links the suspect to one of the rival factions involved in the long-running conflict in Bawku, an area that has experienced repeated outbreaks of violence. Investigators believe Iddrisu played an active role in facilitating armed activities connected to the unrest.
A preliminary forensic review of three mobile phones retrieved from him reportedly uncovered videos and audio recordings suggesting involvement in violent operations. According to police sources, the materials include footage allegedly showing the suspect brandishing multiple AK-47 rifles and pistols at a location believed to be within Bawku, as well as audio messages in which he is said to be requesting additional weapons and ammunition.

Further intelligence indicates that Iddrisu and another suspect, identified only as Mark and still on the run, may have been involved in the smuggling of arms and ammunition into the conflict-hit area.

After the December 29 attack, Iddrisu is believed to have gone underground until investigators traced him to Polego and moved in to effect his arrest.
He is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations, while security agencies intensify efforts to locate and arrest other suspects linked to the case.
