The Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has stated that he will still fulfill his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles of Nigeria despite the team’s heartbreaking defeat to Morocco in the Afcon semifinal played on Wednesday night, January 14, 2026.

Following Nigeria’s dominate 2 – 0 win over Algeria in the quarterfinal, Mr. Rabiu took to social to pledge $500,000 for Super Eagles should the team beat host nation, Morocco in the semifinal. He also pledged to further give the Eagles per each goal scored in the match against Morocco.

However, the match ended in a 0 – 0 draw. After extra time, Nigeria lost to Morocco 4 – 2 on penalties.

Missing Nigeria’s two penalties in the all-important match were Samuel Chukwueze and Bruno.

He wrote on X, “To our brave Super Eagles, You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud.”

He added that “Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion, and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration.”

According to him, “As a token of appreciation for your remarkable journey and effort, I am still going ahead to fulfill the pledge of $500,000 USD. This is in recognition of your hard work, dedication, and the joy you have brought to our nation.”

“Keep your heads high, Super Eagles – the experience, lessons, and spirit will fuel even greater success next time. Nigeria will always be proud of you, and we believe in your future victories!”
