The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has strongly condemned the killing of one of its volunteers, Abdurrauf Sheriff, who was stabbed to death by suspected hoodlums while on duty in Kano metropolis.
According to the NSCDC, the incident occurred along Gyadi Gyadi Court Road, where the volunteer was lawfully carrying out his assigned responsibilities before he was attacked. The Corps described the killing as a senseless and unacceptable act of violence against personnel contributing to public safety.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the NSCDC confirmed that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
“The unfortunate attack that led to the death of our volunteer is a grievous criminal act which the Corps will not tolerate,” Abdullahi said. “Four suspects were apprehended with dangerous items, including a hacksaw, a locally made weapon (Danbida), and suspected drugs. They are currently in custody and cooperating with investigators to ensure that justice is served.”
Case to Be Handed Over to Police
The Kano State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama, expressed deep sympathy to the family of the deceased and described the loss as painful, not only to the Corps but to the wider community.
He reassured residents that the NSCDC would continue to collaborate closely with other security agencies to combat criminal activities across the state and prevent similar incidents.
Given the nature of the offence, which has been classified as culpable homicide, the NSCDC disclosed that the suspects will be transferred to the Nigerian Police Force after preliminary investigations for further legal action in line with the law.
Call for Public Cooperation
The Corps also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, urging them to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and enhance public safety.
The killing has renewed concerns about attacks on security personnel and volunteers, particularly those involved in community-based security efforts, highlighting ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order.
