Ghana: NDC Reviews First Year in Office, Says Focus Is on Economic Stability and Restoring Public Confidence

The governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is making steady progress in rebuilding public trust and stabilising Ghana’s economy, as it reflected on its first year in office in a Christmas and New Year message to the nation.

In a statement released on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party said the past year had been defined by deliberate efforts to restore confidence in governance, strengthen state institutions and address economic pressures facing households and businesses.

First-Year Assessment

The NDC said it recognised the responsibility placed on it by voters and stressed that its policy direction has been guided by discipline, accountability and social protection. According to the statement, the administration’s early actions were aimed at creating the conditions for sustainable growth while cushioning vulnerable groups.

“This festive period marks one year since Ghanaians entrusted the NDC with the mandate to govern. We fully acknowledge this responsibility and remain resolute in translating our vision into tangible improvements in the lives of the people,” the statement said.

Policy Focus Areas

Looking ahead, the party outlined several priorities for the coming year, including:
• Continued economic recovery and stabilisation
• Job creation, particularly for young people
• Stronger and more accountable public institutions
• Policies to improve living standards and social welfare

The NDC said it would remain committed to results-oriented governance and responsive leadership, noting that rebuilding confidence requires consistency and measurable outcomes.

Managing Expectations

The party also emphasised the need to balance reform ambitions with realistic expectations, saying economic stabilisation and institutional rebuilding are ongoing processes rather than quick fixes.

“Our approach remains anchored in discipline and accountability as we work to meet the expectations of Ghanaians,” the statement noted.

Message to Citizens

Alongside seasonal greetings to Ghanaians at home and abroad, the message served as a reassurance that the party intends to fully deliver on its governing mandate as the country enters a new year.

The statement concluded that the NDC would continue to pursue policies designed to stabilise the economy and improve livelihoods, while strengthening trust between citizens and the state.
