Players of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, who finished as runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, have officially received their national honours certificates and legal documents for the houses and land grants promised by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The presentation took place on December 22, 2025, at the team’s hotel in Fez, Morocco, just as the squad prepares to begin their new AFCON qualifying campaign.
High-Level Handover Ceremony
The ceremony was conducted by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission. The event was attended by a high-powered delegation, including:
- Senator Abdul Ningi (Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports)
- Hon. Kabiru Amadu (Chairman, House Committee on Sports)
- Ibrahim Gusau (NFF President)
- Bashir Adewale (Comptroller-General of Customs)
Breakdown of National Honours
Dikko confirmed that the majority of the squad members were conferred with the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON). Several key figures received elevated recognitions:
- Victor Osimhen & Ahmed Musa: Both were elevated to Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), having previously held the MON.
- William Troost-Ekong: The captain was conferred with the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), recognizing his standout performance as the AFCON 2023 Player of the Tournament.
Housing, Land, and Cash Rewards
The presidential package includes more than just titles. Dikko announced that the processing of all physical rewards is complete:
- Housing: Allocations have been made in either Abuja or Lagos, with official title documents handed over.
- Land: Plots of land in Abuja have been assigned, with allocation letters issued to the players.
- Cash Awards: Arrangements are being finalized by the Ministry of Finance for the payment of $100,000 per player, to be deposited directly into their bank accounts.
Falcons and D’Tigers Included
The Chairman also noted that similar benefit packages approved for the Super Falcons and the men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, have been concluded. The certificates and title documents for these athletes are now ready for collection.
This fulfillment of the President’s pledge is seen as a significant morale booster for the national team as they embark on their next competitive journey on the continent.
