GHANA: 42 Nigerians and 26 Other Nationals Deported from Ashanti Region Following Court Rulings

At least 42 Nigerians have been deported from Ghana’s Ashanti Region following court rulings related to allegations of prostitution, fraud, and other criminal activities. The development was announced by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, in a statement shared on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

The Nigerians were part of a larger group of 68 foreign nationals removed from the region. The breakdown of the deportees includes:

  • Nigerians: 42
  • Cameroonians: 13
  • Benin Nationals: 7
  • Ivorians: 3
  • Burkinabe: 3

Reasons for Deportation

Minister Amoakohene stated that the deportations followed specific court rulings linked to several high-profile illicit activities in the region, notably:

  1. Q-Net Fraud: Participation in the controversial and often fraudulent multi-level marketing scheme.
  2. Prostitution: Alleged involvement in organized sex work.
  3. General Criminality: Various other illegal acts that were processed through the judicial system.

Commendation for Authorities

The Regional Minister praised the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for its professionalism and diligence in carrying out the exercise. He emphasized that the collaboration between the GIS, the courts, and other security agencies is vital for strengthening public safety and maintaining law and order within the Ashanti Region.

Amoakohene noted that the enforcement of immigration laws was conducted while upholding due process and respecting human dignity.

Context: Nigerians Under Scrutiny Abroad

The deportation of Nigerians from Ghana occurs amidst a period of heightened scrutiny for the Nigerian diaspora. Just weeks prior, in late November 2025, at least 50 Nigerians were arrested in India during a massive coordinated crackdown on a transnational narcotics network, marking one of the largest such operations in recent Indian history.

The recent events in Ghana and India underscore the increasing pressure on Nigerian nationals abroad as international security agencies intensify efforts to combat cross-border crime and fraud.
