The Ghanaian government has rolled out a Ghc 1 billion fund to reconstruct and develop Bawku, an area in the country’s Upper East Region notorious for deadly chieftaincy clashes.
According to the government, the Ghc 1 billion Bawku Revitalisation Fund aims to carry out post-conflict reconstruction and development in Bawku.
The Fund was announced after the President Mahama’s administration endorsed the Bawku Conflict Mediation Report.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II presented the Mediation report to President Mahama at a ceremony in Accra on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the government announced in a statement signed by Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, that the Ghc 1 billion will be disbursed over three years period beginning from 2026.
According to the statement, the Fund will be used to undertake critical infrastructure and so-economic recovery projects, including roads, healthcare and educational facilities, as well as irrigation, and dam projects.
