A viral video reportedly filmed at the Turaki Model School in Sokoto State has sparked widespread outrage after showing 161 junior secondary school (JSS) students packed tightly into a single, severely overcrowded classroom.
In the trending clip, the students confirmed that they are all enrolled in JSS1C and that they total 161 in number. The video quickly raised serious concerns online, questioning the deplorable state of public education infrastructure in northern Nigeria.
Political Backlash
The video immediately drew political scrutiny and anger from internet users, particularly concerning the allocation of public funds.
Many social media users contrasted the poor state of the schools with a recent decision by the State Governor to gift 1,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately ₦450,000) to each of the 3,200 pilgrims who performed the 2025 Hajj.
Critics questioned why such resources were being directed toward religious pilgrimages while essential services like education allegedly remain in a state of severe disrepair and overcrowding, making quality learning impossible.
The incident highlights a critical failure in the provision of adequate public schooling, raising alarms about the learning conditions and safety of students in the region.
