Ghana has through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration “strongly and unequivocally” condemned the coup d’etat in Guinea-Bissau.
According to a statement released by Ghana’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, the “unconstitutional usurpation of authority represents a direct assault on democratic governance and disrupts the electoral process that followed the peaceful conduct of presidential and legislative elections on 23rd November, 2025.”
On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, a group of soldiers appeared on Guinea-Bissau state television in the capital Bissau, saying they have taken “total control” of the country. Incumbent President Umaro Sissoco Embaló reportedly told France24 that he has been “deposed”.
In the statement, the Government of Ghana says it “views this development with profound concern and express deep dissatisfaction at the brazen attempt to overturn the will of the people of Guinea-Bissau.”
