Widow of Slain Activist Charlie Kirk Describes Hospital Scene Following Utah Shooting

Nearly two months after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during an appearance at Utah Valley University, his widow, Erika Kirk, is publicly sharing the moment she first saw him in the hospital after the attack.

Kirk, co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 while speaking with students during a stop on his American Comeback Tour. A statement from Turning Point USA at the time said he was rushed to hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries. Former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the news later that day on social media.

Speaking in a recorded interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters — scheduled to air in full Wednesday evening — Erika described the scene in the hospital room and how the expression on Charlie’s face stayed with her.

“When we walked into that room … he had this smirk on his face,” she said. She interpreted that expression as his final message to those who opposed him and his values: that the effort to end his vision and political movement would ultimately fail.

Charlie Kirk had been engaging students at his signature “Prove Me Wrong” table at the university when he was asked a question about gun violence. Moments later, he was shot in the neck in front of those in attendance.

Following his death, Erika delivered a press conference in which she spoke about Charlie’s legacy, his faith, and his devotion to their family.

“Charlie always said that when he was gone, he wanted to be remembered for his courage and his faith,” she said. “Above all, Charlie loved his children, and he loved me with all of his heart.”

In the days after the shooting, Turning Point USA’s board announced that Erika would assume the role of CEO and board chair — a move they said Charlie had previously requested should anything ever happen to him.

The assassination prompted widespread condemnation, tributes from conservative leaders, and renewed discussions about political violence in the United States.
