Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted 70 parcels of cocaine cleverly concealed within the walls of cocoa butter body cream containers destined for London, United Kingdom. The seizure was made at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos.
According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the cocaine — weighing 3.60 kilograms — was discovered on October 14, 2025, during the inspection of cargoes packaged as personal effects on an Air Peace flight to London.
A cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, who presented the consignment for shipment, was immediately arrested. Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects believed to be the masterminds behind the smuggling attempt.
“In a follow-up operation on October 18, a female healthcare worker, Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, was arrested, leading to the capture of Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, Chief Executive Officer of Mutiu Adebiyi & Co Travel Agency, at his office on 23 Ladoke Akintola Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos, on October 20,” the statement revealed.
In a related operation, NDLEA officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA) in Enugu thwarted an attempt by Lemena Mark, a 35-year-old Lesotho national, to smuggle 103.59 grams of methamphetamine concealed in a diabetes herbal coffee tea pack to the Philippines on October 22.
The suspect was arrested, and the illicit drug was recovered as part of the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to curb transnational drug trafficking through Nigerian airports.
