The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten individuals accused of creating fraudulent online food delivery platforms to scam unsuspecting customers.
According to the Police, the arrests were carried out by the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) after weeks of coordinated intelligence operations.
The first six suspects — Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah — were apprehended on October 1, 2025, in Sogakope. Investigations revealed that they were operating an elaborate online fraud network impersonating popular food chains such as Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko.
The suspects reportedly created fake websites and social media pages mimicking these brands. Customers who placed orders were asked to make advance payments via mobile money but never received their food. In some instances, the fraudsters allegedly gained unauthorized access to victims’ mobile money and bank accounts under the guise of helping with payments, then withdrew funds.
Digital devices used in the operation were confiscated and are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the alleged ringleader, Elijah Sotama Etse — also known as “Pop Smoke” — along with three others: Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli. They were captured at their hideout in Haatso, Accra, on October 12, 2025. Twelve mobile phones suspected to have been used in the scheme were also seized.
All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court today, Monday, October 13, 2025.
The Police have urged anyone who may have fallen victim to similar scams to report to the nearest police station to assist with ongoing investigations.
