Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has appealed to the Ghana Health Service (GHS) to show leniency toward Bernice Aboagye, a staff nurse who was recently queried for allegedly making offensive comments about him in a viral social media video.
In a statement released on Sunday, October 12, 2025, and signed by Tony Goodman, Head of Health Training Institutions and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, the Ministry confirmed awareness of the query letter circulating online. It also commended the GHS for enforcing professional ethics and maintaining the standards outlined in its Code of Conduct.
However, Mr. Akandoh urged the Service to “temper justice with mercy,” emphasizing the importance of fostering an environment that allows for constructive criticism and open dialogue within the health sector.
“Both the Minister and the government welcome divergent views and constructive criticism as part of their commitment to promoting tolerance and openness to diverse opinions,” the statement read.
The Minister further encouraged health professionals to express their concerns respectfully and responsibly, noting that civil dialogue strengthens collaboration and advances the sector’s growth.
The Ministry also clarified that it does not oppose peaceful demonstrations, describing them as a legitimate and constitutional means of expressing frustration. Nonetheless, it cautioned against the use of abusive language or indiscipline during such actions.
Additionally, the statement reminded health workers to exercise care and professionalism in their public communications and social media engagements to preserve the image of the health service.
