Scottish authorities have dismantled a woodland encampment established by a self-styled African group calling itself the “Kobala Kingdom,” following a sheriff’s order for immediate eviction, local media reported.
Police detained the group’s leader, 36-year-old Kofi Ofei—who goes by “King Atheny”—along with his Zimbabwean wife, Jan Gasho, known as “Queen Nandi,” and 21-year-old American member Kaura Taylor, nicknamed “Asenath.”
Taylor, from Dallas, had been reported missing earlier this year. Her family later identified her in Scotland, where she had been living with the group. Thursday’s eviction was livestreamed on Taylor’s TikTok account, showing members being escorted from the forest.
The landowner, David Palmer, said the encampment caused a disturbance and pursued legal action. After the group shifted onto council-owned land, Sheriff Peter Paterson ordered them to vacate immediately. None of the members appeared in court.
The trio describe their project as a spiritual reclamation of land taken from their ancestors centuries ago. Ofei, a former opera singer who claims descent from the biblical King David, said the “Kobala Kingdom” exists “by the will of the Creator” and does not recognise state ownership of land.
