The Oyo State Police Command has arrested one Alfa Basiru for allegedly being in possession of a substance suspected to be human flesh. The arrest, which took place during a routine stop-and-search operation, also led to the recovery of an abandoned vehicle at the Toll Gate area in Ibadan.
The Arrest and Investigation
In a statement posted on the Command’s official X handle, the police confirmed the arrest by its Federal Highway Patrol team. According to the police spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, officers intercepted a white bus with registration number XA 551 IRG. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the substance in the possession of the suspect, Alfa Basiru.
The suspect claimed he had purchased the substance in Lagos. He has since been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further interrogation. The police stated that the suspected item is undergoing forensic analysis to determine its authenticity and source.
Separate Incident: Abandoned Vehicle
In a separate incident during the same operation, police operatives flagged down a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX. The driver, upon being stopped, abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. The car has been taken into custody by the Command.
The police have urged members of the public with legitimate claims to the vehicle to come forward with verifiable documents and contact the Command via its official channels.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that the ongoing stop-and-search operations are a “real and deliberate measure” to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of residents and travelers within Oyo State.
