President William Ruto has laid the foundation stone for the development of the Vipingo Special Economic Zone, a transformative 2,000-acre project set to attract Sh390 billion in investments located in Kilifi County, Kenya.

According to President Ruto during the launch of the project on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the Vipingo Special Economic Initiative will generate 35,000 plus direct jobs.

He says the project will “spark thousands more economic opportunities across industries.”

President Ruto noted that Kenya is unlocking its full potential as Africa’s industrial powerhouse.

He said “We are investing in Special Economic Zones (SEZs) as engines of growth to fast-track industrialisation, attract global investors, and create wealth for our people.”

The Kenyan leader indicated that “With 38 SEZs, 111 EPZs, abundant green energy, a dynamic young workforce, and rich natural resources for value addition — Kenya stands as the gateway to Africa’s 1.4 billion-strong AfCFTA market.”
