The Trump administration has agreed to release over 300 South Korean workers who were detained after the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents raided a Hyundai plant in Georgia, the South Korean government has announced.

The Korean government made the announcement on Sunday, September 7, 2025, saying the arrest of its nationals was regrettable.

Local American media outlets reported that during the raid on Thursday, ICE agents arrested 475 immigrants suspected of living and working in the US illegally.

Following the arrest, South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun, says over 300 of the detained workers were South Korean citizens.

But the Chief of Staff at the South Korean Presidency, Kang Hoon-sik, says negotiations had been finalized on the release of the workers.

Hoon-sik added they would be returned to South Korea as soon as the remaining administrative steps are completed.

According to him, South Korea is planning to send a charter plane for the detained workers.
