Fresh controversy has erupted in the upscale suburb of Kololo, Kampala, following a dramatic property dispute involving individuals linked to Uganda’s First Family.
Dr. Dennis Daniel Ssemugenyi, the proprietor of Dennis Ssemugenyi Investment Group, has accused Charlotte Muhoozi, wife to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and Col. Edith Nakalema, former head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, of backing an illegal takeover of his business premises.
The incident follows a High Court ruling that ordered DFCU Bank to unfreeze seven bank accounts belonging to Dr. Ssemugenyi’s investment group. The court ruled that the freeze, which lasted over 12 months, had been unlawful and orchestrated through a conspiracy involving bank staff, police officers, and corrupt state agents.
Armed Invasion and Lock Change
In a video message recorded by Dr. Ssemugenyi narrated how a group of people, reportedly acting on instructions from Mrs. Charlotte Muhoozi and protected by Col. Nakalema, stormed his Kololo premises accompanied by armed security personnel.
The group allegedly evicted a caretaker girl, changed the locks, and took unlawful possession of the property.
“This is state-backed impunity,” Dr. Ssemugenyi said. “How can a property legally purchased from DFCU Bank be grabbed by people claiming connections to the First Family? This is pure lawlessness.”
He emphasized that the building was purchased legally from DFCU Bank and has proper documentation to prove rightful ownership.

Legal Fallout and Silence from Accused
Efforts to obtain comments from Charlotte Muhoozi and Col. Nakalema were unsuccessful by press time.
Legal observers now expect a new legal battle to ensue, with Dr. Ssemugenyi’s legal team preparing to challenge the forcible occupation of the property through the courts.
The case is fast becoming a symbol of elite impunity, where high-ranking individuals allegedly deploy state machinery to settle personal interests.
