Austrian Ambassador to Ghana Visits Academic City University

His Excellency Jurgen Heissel, the Austrian Ambassador to Ghana, has paid an official visit to Academic City University to explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration between Austria and the university.

The purpose of the visit was for the Ambassador to become acquainted with Academic City’s academic philosophy, facilities, and its unique approach to higher education. It also created a chance for both institutions to discuss potential partnerships that could promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.

In his welcome, Professor Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City, showed his appreciation for the visit, calling it a clear sign of the ambassador’s interest in Ghana’s education sector. He emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships for bringing about significant change in tertiary education, noting that Academic City is committed to transforming university education in Africa by providing students with future-ready skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Professor McBagonluri also added, “As a forward-thinking institution, our focus is on preparing students to be not only job seekers, but also creators of jobs and providers of solutions. We are enthusiastic about the prospect of working with Austria to improve our provision of a world-class university experience.”

Ambassador Heissel praised Academic City for its impressive accomplishments in a relatively short time and its innovative academic model, which combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience and prepares students to address real-world challenges. He was particularly impressed by the university’s entrepreneurship program, calling it a crucial tool for empowering young people to think creatively and take initiative. He added that such programs are essential for tackling Africa’s unemployment issues and unlocking the continent’s full potential.

Ing. Dr. Lucy Agyepong, Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Academic City, expressed hope that a partnership with the Austrian government and its institutions could offer students international exposure and resources to further their education. She stated that such collaborations are vital for closing the gap between academic theory and industry practice.

“At Academic City, our goal is to build a large number of skilled professionals and innovators who will drive Africa’s transformation. We believe that collaborating with development-focused countries like Austria will create opportunities that are beneficial to both sides, enabling the exchange of knowledge, innovation, and capacity-building that serve the shared objectives of both regions,” she concluded.
