South Africa’s Unemployment Rate Rises To 33.2% In Quarter 2

Unemployment rate in South Africa in the second quarter of 2025 increased from 32.9 percent in January-March to 33.2 percent in April-June.

The data was released by the South Africans statistics agency on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

According to Statistics South Africa, the number of unemployed people increased to 8.367 million in the second quarter of 2025, up from 8.228 million in the prior quarter.

An expanded definition of unemployment, which includes those discouraged from looking for work, fell to 42.9% in the second quarter from 43.1% in the first.
