Amasaman High Court Denies Bail to Nana Agradaa as Appeal Against 15-Year Sentence Continues

On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the Amasaman High Court denied bail to Evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa or Evangelist Mama Pat, pending her appeal against a 15-year prison sentence for fraud and charlatanic advertisement. The founder of Heaven Way Champion International Ministry appeared in court as her legal team, led by Richard Asare Baffour, sought her release while the appeal process unfolds. The court rejected the bail application, ordering the Circuit Court registrar to provide trial records within 14 days to facilitate the appeal.

Speaking to Channel One News, a member of Agradaa’s legal team expressed disappointment but remained optimistic, stating, “We are disappointed with the decision, but we will continue to explore all legal avenues.” The team argues that the original trial, which concluded on July 3, 2025, at an Accra Circuit Court under Justice Evelyn Asamoah, was marred by judicial bias and insufficient evidence, rendering the 15-year sentence excessive.

Agradaa’s conviction stems from a 2022 televised broadcast where she promised to double money for attendees of an all-night church service, leading to complaints from over 1,000 congregants who received no returns. She was found guilty of one count of charlatanic advertisement, fined GH¢300 (or 30 days in default), and two counts of defrauding by false pretenses, each carrying a 15-year sentence to be served concurrently.

The case continues to draw significant attention due to Agradaa’s controversial history as a former traditional priestess turned evangelist and her high-profile media presence. Her legal team remains confident in overturning the conviction, while she continues to serve her sentence at Nsawam Female Prison.
